Sources of Renewable Energy

By , March 9, 2011 1:36 pm

Currently, oil and fossil fuel are the primary source of our energy needs. Although generation / exploration of these energy sources are generally easy and most profitable, it is not renewable and will deplete in the long run. That is aside from the environmental damage that it creates from its exploration to its final use.

Fortunately we now have an emerging alternative. An alternative that is friendly to the environment and clean. Not only that, it is renewable. As of now scientists are on their way to discover cheaper generation cost and efficiency to this technology. But definitely, this is the energy of the future. But what are the sources of renewable energy? Let us look at some:

The sun not only gives us light at daytime but it is a major renewable energy source. In fact even in the old times they already harness the power of the sun for hot water and power for some appliances with solar panel. Aside from the sun we also generate renewable energy from the wind. Turbines converts to electricity the force that the wind turbines collect from the wind.

Biomass is also one of the sources seriously developed by the scientists. This normally comes from living organisms. Now a lot of discoveries are directed from this method. Among those closely studied by scientists is Hydrogen because it is the element most abundant in our planet. The only problem is how to breakdown the hydrogen particle from other elements. For example, water (H2O)

When waterfalls are sourced for energy, normally it is through Hydropower which uses water turbines for the utilization of the kinetic energy that the water brings from the top of the waterfalls.

The advancement of technology allows us to discover a lot of things and utilize the available resources for our renewable energy. Come to think of it, most our energy sources are available in our day to day lives. This is a high time for us to switch to renewable energy. So what are you waiting for? Use renewable; energy , save the environment towards becoming a renewable energy world.

Job Opportunities on Switching from Coal Energy?

By , March 9, 2011 1:30 pm

Contrary to the common perception that we are highly reliant on Coal mining not only for energy but also on our economic sustainability, a study shows that by 2030, transferring from coal to renewable energy will in fact boost job creation by 2.7million jobs. The study states that switching to renewable electricity generation will create 2.7 million more jobs while avoiding 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

If the government will support this report and act upon it through legislation the renewable energy industry can grow bigger and generate more jobs. Unlike before that they see it as a threat to coal mining which may result to negative economic drawbacks through its direct impact in the employment figures. In fact some world leaders
are leaning to this trend. Like Gordon Brown who is seeking to implement a green new deal in the United Kingdom. In this program United Kingdom will utilize industries in renewable energy to jumpstart the flailing economy.

Sven Teske of green peace even commented that renewable power industries can create a lot of jobs especially if the renewable are more competitive in the long run. To expound on this, for as long as this technology progresses to a more efficient and cost-effective way of

energy generation, more investors will be interested in the production of energy through renewable means. The more this industry flourishes the more job opportunity it will create.

Even the development phase of this technology (to simplify and mass produce renewable electricity) can also contribute to the economic growth. As I see it plants manufacturing solar panels, and various equipments used in the production green energy will highly contribute to the economic welfare of society allowing breakthrough after breakthrough. After all, green energy is not only limited to sun , wind, or biomass, but it may also come from a source that is waiting for our discovery.
And since it’s renewable it will be cheaper the longer you use it. And that is additional savings to the public on their utility bills, cleaner air and environment. Truly, in a renewable energy world, you can never go wrong.
